Today we love: lighting from SkinFlint Design

August 26th, 2010

Today we’re loving SkinFlint Design, lighting designers and dealers in reclaimed retro lighting and salvaged lights,  with an emphasis on twentieth century industrial fixtures.

Today we love: Loom rugs

Today we’re loving rugs from Loom (great website by the way), particularly this Hepsi rug which is made up from lots of rugs.

Built to Resi(s)t

August 20th, 2010

Backpacks.  They evoke visions of hiking, mountain biking, trekking along a mountain pass.  Rarely do they suggest sitting down (comfily).  Eastpak, known primarily for backpacks is teaming up with avant-garde furniture maker Quinze & Milan for a collection of sofas…with pockets.

Of course such a creation is much greater than the sum of its constituent parts.  We in the office can think of hundreds of uses for a pocketed sofa, and yes, they extend to beyond the remote control.

The special-edition, Built to Resi(s)t Collection was unveiled earlier this year at Milan’s furniture fair. Whilst they aren’t on sale yet, a love seat and ottoman will be first off the production line.

For more information, go to Eastpak’s website.

A-maze-ing coffee cup?

August 20th, 2010

Oh come on.  Tell me you would have resisted.  So, it’s a coffee cup called Oluk, with a maze in the saucer, so you can gaze at your drips as they casually wend their way to the centre.  Useful?  No.  Perfectly cute?  Absolutely.  Recently exhibited at the 2010 imm Cologne Fair in Germany, it’ll be in production soon, and I know at least a few Sofa.com employees who’ll be in line when it launches.

Today We Love: Love House Design

August 19th, 2010

Beth Worth contacted us after feeling that she needed to give her Jackson sofa a facelift after years of trusty service.  She popped down to our new showroom to have an investigate, and decided to take some shots and pop them on her blog.  When we heard about our mention, even the quickest of looks was enough to get us interested in Love House Design – a design service “born out of a lifelong passion for interiors – both on the screen and in real life.”  The blog is well worth a look; filled with personal experiences of everyday design with some smashing photos to boot.  Check it out here.

Bunk Up

August 19th, 2010

Whilst it’s questionable whether any adult of sofa-buying age would be interested in bunk beds, you can’t fault the design brilliance of this sofa/bunk bed transformer.  Adding a touch of perhaps dormitory-style fun to friends staying over, and great if floor space is tight, we’re sure it’ll find its niche soon enough.

Today we love… DBA’s dishrack

August 18th, 2010

It might not be the comfiest of products we’ve shown you, but it might be the niftiest. This dishrack from DBA holds cutlery and thin glassware swimmingly and can be twisted open and rinsed easily. It also looks stylishly minimalistic and is made of recycled polypropylene – a winning product.
