Coastal Chic – nautical inspired homes

Whilst we find ourselves unable to travel to our favourite beachside destinations overseas, we are seeing more and more creative ways of bringing the coast to you (fish and chips in the garden, anyone?). One way we can get on board with is creating a cool and calm coastal-inspired interior in your home. If you sit back, close your eyes and relax, you may even be able to hear the sea washing up on the shore…

A timeless coastal haven

The nautical look is a timeless and sophisticated way of bringing the peaceful and uplifting vibes of the seaside closer to home, particularly in times like these. The calming and simple nature of the coastline is brought to life here with cool blues and light greys on our Bluebell sofa and footstool – creating the perfect space to relax in. Keeping it simple, the light walls brighten up the room, and the circular mirrors not only help to open up the space but also add a nautical reference, reminiscent of ship’s portholes. To finish the look, add a natural textured rug, rose blush accents and some fresh foliage, and you’ll have your very own chic coastal haven.

Inspired by the water

Keep things simple with classic blues and whites, inspired by the ocean. This space, designed by @fieldandco_interior_design, is the perfect example of how less is more. The patterned cushions sitting on our Aissa sofa add subtle nautical references without overpowering the space, whilst the neutral accent palette keeps the space feeling light and bright. The addition of wooden accessories, for example in the tripod floor light, is a great way to introduce elements of nature – reminiscent of driftwood you may find on the coast – whilst the oars mounted on the wall are the perfect ode to water.

A rustic seaside escape

Cool blues, light whites, and wooden frames help transform this space into a calm coastal corner to relax in. The classic nautical combination of blues and whites are representative of the sea, whilst the wooden elements are reminiscent of beach huts, driftwood and boardwalks. The woven wall hanging, made from natural materials, and the dried flowers help to bring a beautiful rustic charm to the room. Our Hendrik armchair, with its Scandi-inspired design, is the perfect place to sit back and relax, daydreaming about the seaside in style.

Shelter from the storm

As well as being clear, calm and turquoise blue, the sea can also transform into a dark and thundery storm, and there’s nothing better than being snuggled up on the sofa whilst listening to the power of nature outside. Pairing blue and white is a simple way to give a room a sense of tranquility, and our Isla sofa is the perfect place to shelter from the storm. The dark tones of our Midnight Blue brushed linen cotton exude sophistication and comfort, whilst the white panelling not only prevents the room from feeling too dark, but also adds a nautical element – emulating the whitewashed wooden boats and boardwalks found by the coast. The dark wooden floorboards are a perfect addition to the space, and the patterned rug and scatter cushions finish the space off perfectly.

Life’s a beach

Harlow Double Bed in Alabaster brushed linen cotton

If you’re dreaming of coastal adventures, this bedroom is the ultimate seaside sanctuary. Starting with simple, whitewashed floorboards to emulate sandy beaches, the gorgeous blue panelling on the wall is reminiscent of blue skies and wooden boats. Our Harlow bed is upholstered in Alabaster brushed linen cotton, which keeps the space light with its tall statement headboard, and is the perfect base to build up layers of luxurious bedding in contrasting nautical prints and shades of blue. Natural elements such as the rattan light fitting, wicker basket and pampas grass are reminiscent of the grass upon sand dunes blowing in the wind, taking you back to a windy summer’s day at the beach.
