Now for the fun bit which comes round only once a year!
Create a tree even Santa would be proud of by starting with the lights first! Wrap your tree from the bottom up, with lights of your choice, and then take each ornament and evenly space them around the tree. Stick to one at a time to ensure you do not have any empty patches or cluttered areas (it sounds simple, but it does make sense!). Mix and match different shapes, but for a more cohesive and complete looking tree, stick to one colour scheme of complementing colours.
- Classic Christmas colours, red and green. Accent the green tree with red ornaments, garlands and ribbons. If you want to add some pizazz with one metallic colour, try gold or silver. Red, green or clear lights would work best.
- Wintry colours, like blue, silver and purple. Use your tree to imitate the icy, glittering colours of a snowy Christmas. If you choose this scheme, try to avoid mixing in anything red, yellow, or golden. Pick clear or blue lights to go with it. For a truly minimalist winter look, use only white and silver decorations.
- Metallic colours, such as gold, silver and bronze. The good news is that metallic colours are easy to mix, and you can play with one, two or three. They’re best accented with clear lights.
We’ve gone for a classic combination of silver and red, with gold accents for our tree – which you can replicate with the decorations below.
