5 ways to treat your Mum at home this Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is fast approaching, the day we try and make the special ladies in our lives feel as amazing as possible.  Whether it’s your mum, grandma, sister, auntie or a special friend that you’ll be devoting your time to this Mother’s Day (for those of you who need a gentle reminder, its next Sunday 11th March!) make this year a memorable one at home. Here are our five top tips for spending an enjoyable day at home with an inspirational lady this Mother’s Day.

Take her breakfast in bed

Start the day off as you mean to go on by treating your mum to a delicious breakfast in bed. For this Mother’s Day tradition we’ve teamed up with culinary experts at The Social Pantry for a homemade granola recipe that not only tastes wonderful, but it’s really easy to prepare beforehand, so you can spend more time chatting the morning away with your favourite ladyGinger, walnut and date granola

Watch your favourite film together

If you have a TV or film watching mum then enjoy it together!  Set yourselves up in your favourite sofa.com spot, plump the cushions (if you need some more beforehand, you can check out our ranges here – scatter cushions), get the popcorn ready and put on your favourite flick or TV-programme and settle in for the afternoon. If you need a bit of help deciding on what to put on the box over the weekend, here are a few of our favourite films to watch with your mum (that won’t make you cringe) and are all about families and friendship. 1 –  Freaky Friday 2 –  Monster-in-law 3 –  Crazy, stupid, love 4 –  Mrs Doubtfire 5 –  Mamma Mia!

Set up a scavenger hunt

If you’re looking for something a little different away from the food and drink tradition. Get the whole family involved (it’s great for the little ones in the family too) to hide a selection of small gifts around the house, with riddles to direct your mum to the next gift. This is a fun activity, that will get everyone off their feet and interacting with each other –  where your mum will be left with a bundle of small gifts and lots of memories.

Gather the whole family for lunch or dinner

Whether it’s a collaborative effort in the kitchen with your siblings or you go all out on your own to cook your mum’s favourite dish (don’t forget dessert!), make the most of the mealtime by sitting up at the dining table and enjoy the occasion together, with no digital distractions.

Create an at-home spa

Everyone loves a little pampering once in a while, so it’s no wonder a common activity for Mum’s to enjoy on Mother’s Day is to enjoy a day at the spa. However, if you can’t make it to the spa on Sunday, why not bring the spa to her? Don your robes and slippers and enjoy some at home face or hair masks and spend some time relaxing. An at-home foot spa is a sheer indulgence and something which can be easily put together at home and the perfect opportunity to pop open the bubbly while you sit back! At home-foot spa:

  • Fill a tub of warm water that covers your ankles, add in two cups of buttermilk, a handful of rock salt and your favourite essential oils
  • Opt for peppermint oil for a rejuvenating feeling, lavender to relax and unwind or lemon oil to stimulate the blood circulation in your feet.
  • Leave your feet to soak for 15-20 minutes and either sit back and relax or enjoy some uninterrupted quality time with your mum.
