Best in Show! Our top 5 botanical designs for 2019
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show’s annual appearance has got us wondering what our entry would look like. Our first idea was a chocolate themed garden; dark roses/chrysanthemums, chocolate fountains, chocolate statues, chocolate patio furniture etc, but then we thought ‘what if the sun comes out and melts it?’. Also, you know… wasps. Our second concept was an underwater theme but then we thought ‘what if one of the judges can’t swim?’. Our third idea was a jungle theme but apparently big cats qualify as ‘an unnecessary hazard’ in the world of competitive gardening (boring!) so after careful consideration we’ve decided to leave things to the professionals. While we might have hung up our gardening gloves for now, we’ve still got plenty of botanical pieces that will have your home winning best in show! Check out our top five florals below and prepare to create a home that will get guests’ (and those all important judges’) heads turning in no time!
Freshly added to our fabric garden for 2019, our fantastic (and aptly named) Chelsea Bloom is a certified beauty! Boasting a gorgeous painterly style and two delightfully optimistic colour ways, this is a fresh take on the floral trend. Try upholstering a traditional shape (such as our Snowdrop sofa seen here) in Chelsea Bloom for a classical piece with some contemporary punch.
2. Full throttle florals
If anyone knows a thing or two about botanicals it’s critically acclaimed interior designer Lucy Tiffney! Lucy has stitched her signature floral style into four exclusive fabrics for us here at sofa.com and the results are blooming gorgeous! These fabrics can be upholstered across the entire range and we would recommend paying close attention to accent pieces (like our lovingly handcrafted Fingal loveseat seen here) to add a bit of visual interest to any room. Lucy will be launching her stunning collection and performing a live painting demo in our Islington showroom on Thursday 23rd May. Be sure to book your tickets here before they’re gone!
3. Over the garden wall
Now how’s this for a statement-making space? We’re all about a feature wall and have fallen head over heels for Surface View’s magnificent Mural. Why not go bold with a strong botanical print wallpaper and then allow your furniture to bring this detailing to life through its texture? Our supple cotton matt velvets are as soft to the touch as a petal and will lend your living room a sense of unbridled luxury.
4. Stylish scattering
If you want to embrace the botanical trend without going too bold, then be sure to experiment with accessories. Scatter cushions can offer a great pop of pattern and are easily replaced when you feel like changing the vibe of your space. Our Putsborough Cowparsley scatter cushions by Zoe Glencross in Anchor and Pink Grapefruit are light and whimsical and will add a touch of refinement to any room.
5. Rose tinted relaxation
Ok, so we know you’re probably thinking ‘where’s the botanical in this bedroom, huh?’. But our Knightsbridge double bed is actually sporting our stunning Dusty Rose cotton matt velvet. This romantic fabric is as lovely as it’s namesake and will lend your boudoir a beautifully sophisticated edge.
