At home with Jordan & Russell from 2LG Studio

Jordan Cluroe and Russell Whitehead from 2LG Studio have quickly become two leading names in the design industry, being prominently featured in leading magazines and national newspapers for their passion for clean, cool and contemporary style.  The design duo firmly believes that great interiors can change your life, so we caught up with the gents to talk top interior tips, the pros and cons of being designers and how they’ve styled sofa.com pieces in their home.

How did you both develop a love for interior design?

We have always loved design. Before we launched 2LG Studio we both worked professionally as actors.  This unconventional pathway into design is, we think, one of our strongest assets! Our love of people and process of getting into people’s characters has become one of the most beneficial things when working with clients. We launched a textile business which quickly grew into our first interior commission. Next up came a hotel development. We were asked to design 2 suites, but when they saw what we did they asked us to take on a further 18 rooms, the bar/reception and restaurant! It was a baptism of fire!

Do you ever clash on ideas or are you now pretty in-sync with each other?

We have very different approaches to design and always push each other outside of our comfort zones. Our constant drive to over-deliver is what pushes us to get the best for ourselves and our clients. Although our process and paths are very different, we essentially are always headed toward the same goal.

Who would your dream design collaboration be with?

I feel like we are very lucky to have collaborated with the people we have so far in our careers. Going to New York with our CUSTHOM collaboration for Ligne Roset was a dream come true. Working with Brit favourites like Brintons and Graham and Brown were also huge! We would love to collaborate with a London restaurant or another hotel. We have grown so much since our first hotel design and would love to do that again.

What is the first piece of advice you would give to someone who is renovating a room in their house?

Be brave, don’t follow trends. This space is for you and no one else so do what you want and not whats fashionable right now. Invest in art that you love and show it off!

You’ve also used our gorgeous Izzy Corner Sofa in a stunning room design recently – why did you settle on Izzy and our pure cotton matt velvet fabric?

Several reasons, practically it’s huge so has lots of seating. It’s both classic and modern whilst the fabric choice remains elegant and the velvet adds a touch of understated glamour.

Do you have your eye on anything else at sofa.com?

We love that the fabric options are always growing, giving endless options. Be brave…don’t choose grey!

What is the best part of what you do? The people we get to meet, the places we get to go! We also get to work together everyday. Although running a business is hard and at times stressful, we feel very lucky that we get to do what we love! Hopefully making peoples lives easier and more beautiful!

What do you find is the most challenging aspect of what you do?

Having a day off! Our lives are pretty complicated at the moment. Juggling client projects, our own design house and also collaborations with other brands is tough but very rewarding. We use our blog as a way of getting our voice in the design world out there and this is something that we really love! How is the rest of the year looking for 2LG? Busy, we hate that word but it’s very appropriate at the moment! We are working on several really exciting interior projects and also our own home renovation. We are also working on a book… something else that takes up a huge amount of time but we have a strong point of view and lots that we want to share with the world. Keep up with the guy’s projects at 2lgstudio.com and @2LGstudio on Instagram
