Our fabrics

We buy the very best, and cut no corners in this department. Our beautiful, natural fabrics are all woven in a selection of the very best mills in Belgium and Italy.

Brushed Linen Cotton

We chose this fabric for a very simple reason: it's one of the most beautiful upholstery fabrics that money can buy. The fabric has a wonderful soft feel, and is genuinely luxurious. When sold on the high street this fabric commands a price of £32 per metre (and you usually need 16metres of fabric for a three seat sofa) which will give you some idea of how reasonable our prices are.

By Sophie Allport

When we came across Sophie Allport’s cute little cat fabric, we knew we had to have it. It features Sophie’s very own illustrations of adorable Black Cats and is made from 100% cotton meaning its super soft and durable.

Pure Cotton Matt Velvet

The world of velvet has many impostors, but this is not one. This velvet, made from 100% cotton, has a matt finish, and is soft and luxurious. Elsewhere this fabric costs about £52 per metre (you usually need 16 metres of fabric for a three seat sofa) so if you've got a penchant for velvet (like us) there's really no sane alternative to buying a sofa.com velvet sofa.

Celtic Check

Our Celtic wools are lovingly made by ingeniously pressing dyed wool to create a beautifully soft texture. They incorporate understated stripes and herringbone patterns, giving a subtle nod to our Scottish neighbours whilst also creating a sophisticated and stylish look. These look fabulous on more traditional frames as well as petite armchairs and cushions, creating a comforting and homely feel.

Dexter'S Linen

TinTin? Dull. Dexter? Now here you have an all Belgian superhero: suave, debonair, fifth generation maker of the world’s most luxurious linens, and our new best friend. Dexter’s linens are a cut above – heavyweight, stonewashed and thickly woven from the very best flax. You’ll pay more for this linen but you'll be not be disappointed. We've gone to town on it and it is quite exceptional.

Coloured Herringbone

Herringbone is a simple yet sophisticated pattern that looks beautiful when upholstered onto soft furnishings. We have a selection of colours that work brilliantly together and their composition of cotton and linen create a lovely, soft texture. What natural fabrics give you is personality – tiny inconsistencies add a depth that make every piece that tiny bit different. Pretentious but true!

Highland Tweed

The Highlands we refer to here are those renowned Highlands of Northern Belgium, where we have worked for many years with one of the oldest and most civilised mills. Woven from linen, viscose and cotton this “tweed” has real depth, character, and a subtlety of contrast, that made us immediately think of the other Highlands, where the boys wear skirts.

House Linen Cotton

We developed these fabrics with our mill in Belgium because we love linen and we love Herringbone, and the best linen herringboners on the planet are our mussel munching chums from Belgium. We love the colours – they work brilliantly together and they represent idiotically good value. What natural fabrics give you is personality – slight slubs and tiny inconsistencies that add a depth and make every piece that tiny bit different. Pretentious but true!

Pure Belgian Linen

They may not be they most fashionable nation on earth, but the Belgians do make the finest linen. We are seriously proud to sell this linen, it is made and finished to the very highest standard possible, and we can testify to that having traipsed around a large number of linen mills. The colours are beautifully subtle, the fabric soft and elegant - top linen!

Rodeo Leather

Technically-speaking, our Rodeo is an aniline leather, which means it’s really natural and is made using the best bits of the hide. This leather is the cream of the crop: it has a waxy feel and is genuinely luxurious. Due to its natural characteristics and the fact that it hasn’t been mucked about with, this leather will be admired as a thing of beauty by everyone that sets eyes upon it.

Roosevelt Velvet

Teddy Roosevelt - nice cuddly soft teddy bears - yes, the name is a bit tenuous and silly, but you get the message - this exceptionally deep pile, decadent velvet is comforting like a mother's warm embrace...or perhaps your old teddy. Not for everybody, we accept, this blingtastic fabric is our most expensive - it would cost well in excess of £120 retail, but we buy in considerable bulk to make it affordable.

Soft Wool

Soft wool. Or put another way Felt. This fabric is devastatingly cool and chic, but don't be shy - you can do it - you're up to it - you can pull it off. The truth is that, in contrast to most wools, it is beautifully soft and an absolute pleasure to live with. Unlike all our other fabrics this has not been woven, but has been created by ingeniously pressing dyed wool.

Vintage Leather

Brogue is a fully aniline leather, giving its surface the natural texture and grain that you see and in turn a vintage charm allowing the hide to age gracefully. It really is the bee's knees.

Vintage Chenille

Our Vintage Chenille is a beautiful blend of cotton and linen creating a soft yet durable fabric that looks stylish and sophisticated once upholstered onto furniture. Coming in a selection of rich colours these fabrics are perfect for all styles, whether you’re after a tufted traditional design or a more sleek and contemporary shape.

Washed Linen

Ideal for slip cover styles, we found this lovely wrinkled quality linen at one of the oldest mills in France, where the most premium quality flax in the world is grown. Available in cool restful neutrals and a washed blue, this textile offers the tactility we love about linen, but with a shabby chic appearance that looks and feels even better with age. Lending a much more summery, relaxed look compared to all our other linens, this super durable fabric is ideal for those looking for fuss-free, cosy furniture and who aren’t afraid of a wrinkled, lived-in look.

Antique Chenille

Coming in four beautiful colourways, our Antique Chenille features a weathered geometric pattern that has a very soft and subtle sheen. Natural fibres have been woven together to create a beautifully textured fabric making it perfect for upholstery onto traditional styles of furniture with fixed backs.

Bellwether Leather

Our bellwether leather, despite being a slight tongue-twister, is straightforward when it comes to style. It is sourced exclusively from British Oxen giving you the superior quality that you want from a leather and the unique surface characteristics of the hide can still be seen. It has a super soft and supple finish as well, meaning your sofa will be the perfect place to while away the hours.

Chelsea Linen

Our Chelsea linen is made from a mix of natural fibres that are loosely woven together to create a fabric with a soft texture and beautiful finish. Coming in four colourways, two tones of fibre have been woven together to create a material with a soft and subtle colour that gives a relaxed yet sophisticated look to any piece of furniture.

Diamond Weave

This subtly patterned fabric is woven with two tone yarns to form a small-scale diamond weave pattern that creates a beautiful depth and texture when used on furniture. Woven for us by a mill in Belgium, it is made up of natural fibres creating a luxuriously soft texture that looks elegant on both traditional and contemporary furniture.

Nomad Stripes

Bursting on to the scene with some bright, summery stripes, this fabric is a guaranteed hit for any dedicated followers of fashion. Indigo is 2013's top interiors trend, whilst clashing pink and orange are a match made in colour-block heaven. These stripes are a combination of linen and viscose, making them softer than a nomad's saddle and damn smart when upholstered.

Showcase Collection '17

For this season’s Showcase Collection we created two striking, patterned fabrics – a traditional Arts and Crafts inspired design and a contemporary polka dot – that sit alongside three textured cottons and three rustic linens. These statement fabrics sit alongside a combination of textured cottons and rustic linens in muted blue, green and grey hues – enabling you to mix and match the collection to create a look that is just right for your home. The textured cottons - Cadet, Blue Grass, and Mint – are perfect for those wanting to introduce subtle touches of colour into their home. Made from 100% cotton, the woven pattern of the fabric is printed on to give it a beautifully textured look whilst retaining its super soft feel. Pebble, Lake and Leaf make up the rustic linens of the collection and are designed to give a more relaxed, casual look to your living space. The fibres are tightly woven together, creating little inconsistencies in the linen that give it a beautiful texture and character. If you’re after something even more luxurious, why not add some of our beautiful smart velvets into the mix? Dove Grey, Sage and Sapphire are the perfect colours to complement the existing scheme – their rich tone gives more depth and brings a sophisticated and refined feel to the collection. We suggest making the most of the beautiful textures on offer by combining different layers of smart velvet, rustic linen and textured cotton on scatter cushions, a footstool or an armchair for a truly beautiful and interesting space in your home.

Smart Velvet

With their vibrant colours and soft texture, our smart velvets look great upholstered onto any style of furniture. Each one is Teflon coated meaning they have a fabulous durable and resistant quality that prevents spillages from sinking into the fibres too quickly. At 80% cotton, they retain that really luxurious feel which can be absent from other Teflon coated velvets, and their short pile make them irresistibly soft to the touch.

Asquith

For this season’s Design Lab collaboration, we have partnered with renowned designers Bert & May. Synonymous for their elegant simple aesthetic, and use of raw materials and natural pigments, the fine craftsmen have created two bespoke, exclusive designs; Santona and Asquith. Made in the UK, the designs were inspired to reflect the natural feel of the tile designs Burt & May have become so recognisable for. The designs are printed onto the linen and cotton blend using a rotary press, giving the finished result an artisan feel.

Chunky Weave

This contemporary, bold fabric is ideal if you’re looking for something long-lasting and durable. Its heavier weight makes it ideal for upholstering sofas and armchairs which may have little feet regularly jumping on it, without compromising on style within a modern home.

House Basket Weave

Our basket weave has been created with texture in mind and adds subtle colour to your room. Created using a chunkier fibre, the interlaced threads are woven one over the other and grouped together to create the woven basket effect – hence the name. First used 12,000 years ago, it’s proven itself to be a design which is here to stay.

House Cotton Blend

Practically stylish in every way. Woven in Italy, our house cottons possess a subtle pattern with flecks of white weaving through a top layer of colour to produce a cross-stitched effect – fabrics that will sit very comfortably atop any sofa. Incredibly long lasting and durable, they come in a variety of versatile colours. The perfect fabric for a much loved and well used sofa.

Houndstooth

We call it Houndstooth, our friends across the channel call it 'pied de poule' or chicken's foot. Somehow, we prefer our description, but they both have their merit. Veering away from the typical monochrome palette, we’ve opted for a more natural look with two splendid colourways that bring this classic pattern to life.

By Imogen Heath

For this season’s Design Lab collaboration we partnered with the extraordinarily talented, Imogen Heath, who has created two beautiful fabric designs which incorporate her love of geometric and organic motifs. The inspiration for the new fabrics came from a visit to her local National Trust garden which was full of blooms in lilac, lime and emerald. Created using a combination of traditional artistry and digital technology, Imogen has created two patterns, Leaves and Geometric, that both come in two colourways which reflect this season’s colour palette. Vibrant blues and greens are complimented by subtle white and grey tones, to create a beautiful collection that can be used in any combination. The cascading leaf design creates a natural vertical motif which is beautifully complemented by the simple geometric.
