Textile Design With Business Studies at Brighton University1797 votes
I'm a final year student at the University of Brighton, studying Printed Textile Design. I've just completed a year out in industry in which I have been lucky enough to spend some time living in New York and working for Diane Von Furstenberg, as well as interning for a few exciting smaller labels, with a focus on screen printing and the handmade, closer to home in London. I miss the Big Apple, particularly the amazing people watching and the New York Summer sunshine! I love print and textiles, and I am looking forward to (as well as being a little scared!) of what 2013 with final collections and graduate life has to offer...
about the work
My initial inspiration for this print was taken from the photographs of Slim Aarons and his idealistic images of socialites, celebrities and the jet-setting elite on holiday in the 1960’s. What initially drew me to these images was the hazy summer atmosphere created, in particular the rich sun kissed hues and colour palette within them. I have explored this summer holiday theme in the imagery I have looked into; drawing from art deco detailing taken from old beachfront hotels, sculptural tropical plants and the arches of the Majorelle gardens in Morocco. I hope to capture the feel of these vintage holiday pictures, creating a sophisticated, simple, classic pattern in a range of muted, sun-kissed colours lifted directly from the photographs of Slim Aarons.1797 votes back to the winners
