who are we?
So, we set up sofa.com with a very simple aim: to offer the best value, high-quality, beautiful and comfy sofas (and beds) in the UK, combined with the best customer service in the industry. That may sound a little earnest perhaps, but that really is pretty much all you need to know
about us.
So far, we’ve sold over 45,000 sofas and received tons of feedback from happy customers. In November 2012, we were featured in The Sunday Times Fast Track 100 league table for the second year in a row, which you can read more about here.
Have a scroll through the years below to see what we’ve been up to:
-
2005in the beginning...sofa.com was born on 28th November 2005 when we handed over the price of a small house to a man with a funny moustache in a bar in New York. In exchange we became the proud owners of seven letters and a full stop – sofa.com.
-
2006our first factoryWe opened up our very own sofa-making factory in Poland and employed lots of brilliant craftsmen. Many of them are still with us today.
-
2007fabric of life
We started to hunt obsessively for the very best linens and fabrics from Europe, for the very best prices. Each year we now buy over 200km of fabric and give you 70 of the very best to choose from.
-
2007record breakers
We set the Guinness World Record for the fastest sofa. Well, you’ve got to have fun along the way haven’t you?
-
2008coffee and cakeWe bought the platinum-plated Ferrari of coffee machines. So now customers who come to our London showroom get the best cappuccinos ever. We bake them cakes too.
-
2009hitting HollandWe opened our first showroom in Amsterdam, and did a clog dance to celebrate.
-
2009bed timeWe launched our range of super-comfy, stylish beds. Well, as experts in sofas we reckoned beds were the next step to make sure comfy is a 24-hour business in all our homes.
-
2010quibble-free returnsWe delivered a sofa to a very nice lady on the Isle of Skye. Unfortunately, the next day she called to say the colour didn’t quite go with her curtains, so we had to go back and fetch it – but we didn’t mind at all. We stand by our 100% quibble-free returns policy all the way.
-
2010double London funWe had so many visitors to our London showroom that we had to open another one on the same floor. So now we have a lovely spacious showroom overlooking the river Thames, two amazing coffee machines to churn out all those cappuccinos, and staff who do barista training when they join us.
-
2011dream deliveriesOur customers told us they were really happy when we introduced two-hour delivery slots. It meant they didn’t have to wait at home all day for their sofas – unlike with other companies. Our drivers got smart new uniforms too.
-
2011ice cream o’clockIn the summer we started serving ice creams in our showrooms – the dads ate nearly as many as the kids.
-
2011lending a handWe donated £250,000 to build two schools in war-torn Afghanistan. We love sofas, but we love helping people more.
-
2012the Big AppleWe opened our first showroom in New York, and ate lots of hamburgers to celebrate.
-
2012the kids are all rightOur vintage Pac-Man machines in the London showroom kept breaking down, so we decided to replace them with an amazing Kids’ Corner instead.
-
2012capital growthWe were named one of the fastest growing companies in the UK by The Sunday Times. We were really chuffed. You can read more about it here.

-
2012helping outWe donated £25,000 to Help for Heroes because we love what they do, and we’re passionate about giving something back.

-
2013the Bigger AppleWe moved to an even bigger showroom in New York so we could sell even more sofas.
-
2013built to lastsofa.com is a lot bigger than it was in 2005, but our aims haven’t changed one bit – to offer cool, stylish sofas and beds, upholstered with the best fabrics we can lay our hands on. We deliver them fast, from Land’s End to John O’Groats, in two-hour delivery slots, using our own vehicles and drivers. And everything comes with a five-year guarantee because it’s built to last from solid beech and mighty dowels.
-
2013you guys are cool customersHalf our sales come from recommendations or customers coming back for more, and we’ve sold over 45,000 sofas and beds. So, we’d like to say a big THANK YOU and we hope we can continue to be of service.
